The Moon, Snow, and a touch of magic sparkle!

Just before Christmas a good cover of snow in the Netherlands made the landscape look nice and white. Although opportunities were few I managed to get outdoors in the evening of the 23rd. Since two years now I had been hoping to make an image of a cold winter landscape with a moon to finish it off. Well, I got lucky and this trip in the cold paid off. Not only was there the snow I had hoped for with accompanying moon, the weather gods were good to me by adding a touch of early frost on the plants. In the moonlight this all added to a spectaculair landscape sparkling in the moonlight. A real touch of magic.

Curacao

Curacao, oktober 2009

Zoals al een aantal keer eerder, ben ik ook dit jaar weer naar Curacao gegaan, en evenals andere jaren was het er weer lekker warm, hadden we veel zon en was er tijd voor fotograferen. En dat aan het strand liggen soms prima te combineren is met natuurfotografie bleek ook deze vakantie weer. Het varken hiernaast kwam vrolijk langs het strand gelopen om zijn aanwezigheid kenbaar te maken. Uiteindelijk bleek het zich toch prettiger te voelen tussen de prikkers, helaas bleken mijn teenslippers hier niet helemaal op berekend.

Like other years before, again I went to the hot and humid Curacao. Many days were a combination of relaxing in the sea, enjonying the time with my wife and son, and searching the bays for some signs of wildlife. Like many other days I was enjoying the beach and the scene. Out of the bushes suddenly some rustling was to be heard, and two wild pigs and their 3 little piglets decided to make their presence known. Following it on my flip-flop’s the pig decided that the thorny undergrowth suited it better. The flip-flops on my feet were, however, not really up to the job. Following a small path through the bushes all I could do was see whether the pigs would settle down, and they did. Rather than running away they started to look for food on the floor in between all the thorny bushes and cacti. Using a tripod and tele-lens I could just find a few hole in the undergrowth that would let me take a shot at the pigs

Najaar 2009 – Autum 2009

While I had only a short time during spring this year the morning that I did get to go was a nice one. It wasn’t much to start with though. Only when the sun was higher did it let itself see through the disappearing fog. An unexpected golden hue was the result, and all of a sudden images were to be made all around. Part of the results of this morning can be seen below.

Tentoonstelling ‘Leven in de Nacht’

Na de tentoonstellingen ‘Edelherten’  en ‘zicht op licht’ is in samenwerking met het Milieu Educatie Centrum (MEC) in Eindhoven weer een nieuwe foto-tentoonstelling te zien zijn! Dit keer is het Thema ‘Leven in de Nacht’. De beelden laten voor velen verborgen activiteiten en impressies van de nacht zien. Nu al te zien, maar vanaf begin oktober zal de tentoonstelling pas echt compleet zijn!

De tentoonstelling met 19 afbeeldingen van diverse fotografen (waaronder Wouter) van de Vereniging van Natuurfotografen Eindhoven (VNFE) is binnenkort in het Milieu Educatie Centrum in de genneper parken te Eindhoven (MEC) te bezichtigen. Het MEC is van dinsdag t/m vrijdag van 9 – 17, en van zaterdag t/m maandag van 13 – 17 geopend (http://www.mecehv.nl/). Onder de beelden is ook een aantal afbeeldingen van Wouter te zien. Afgedrukt op glans papier en op canvas, in normaal formaat of in panorama, de nachtelijke natuur is het onderwerp. Voor een impressi, klik op een van de onderstaande foto’s.

Slovenia, may 2009

Aan het eind van de maand mei had ik de mogelijkheid om me eens goed uit te leven op een paar prachtige stroompjes in de Sloveense Alpen. Helder stromend water, een fris groene omgeving en de beek fraai omlijnd met de afgeronde rotsen. De grootste uitdaging was dan ook het afdalen naar de beek. Met een 10mm erop was de fotogenieke beek verder prima in beeld te brengen.

During the final days of may I had the opportunity to play with some of the crystal clear streams in the Slovenian alps. While the stream itself almost begged to be put on the photo, getting down to the stream was the biggest hassle of all. While on the slippery wet and steep hill, I used a 10mm lens to capture the streams flow of water.

Over the Moon

Slechts af en toe krijgt een avond een onverwachte wending. Met de hoop op een vochtige avond op pad gegaan naar rugstreeppadden. Het bleek echter droog met de maan laag aan de hemel. Een uitgelezen kans om de rugstreeppad nu eens fraai in zijn nachtelijke omgeving te plaatsen. De camera in  het zand ingegraven en met een groothoeklens erop kon ik zowel de rugstreeppad als de maan in beeld krijgen. Geluk? Een beetje, maar vooral blij met het resultaat.

Only so often do you get hte chance to do something you haven’t been able to do yet. May 7th was such a day. Having set out for a hopefully wet night with an abundance of activity from the Natterjack Toad, it turned out to be dry, with a moonlit sky. Using a wideangle I was able to just fit the moon in together with a Natterjack Toad in its nighly landscape. Unexpected, but somewhat ‘over the moon’ with this opportunity.
