Wouter van den Hoogen was born in Venray, in the south of The Netherlands. Here Wouter came into contact with photography. Using a left-over camera from his father during his high-school years Wouter started developing a passion for photography. Since then the journey through the land of photography has been a varied one. From astro-photography, landscapes and the many nightly endeavours Wouter has tasted a diverse set of photographic niches.
Most recently Wouter has taken a stronger interest in photographing humans and artificial surrounding like laboratory setups. This also shows in his work which now expands to covering conferences, musical performances, and weddings. Over the years this once pure hobby has taken on more serious forms, which now also include paid work. Wouter uses lenses ranging from 16mm wide-angle to 300 mm telephoto and a Nikon D200, and D700 bodies.
In his photographs Wouter is trying to capture the emotions from the moment. It is his hope that the photographs will elicit the emotions, and respect for nature as felt at the actual moment. As a Nature Photographer Wouter is a member of the Association of Nature Photographers Eindhoven (associated in theDutch Nature Photographers Association)
A bit of history…
After finishing high-school Wouter went to live and study in Eindhoven. At Eindhoven University of Technology Wouter reached his Masters degree in Environmental psychology, and in 2007 he finished his PhD. in the domain of social cognitive psychology. The topic of the PhD. was the acceptance of biomass as an energy source. Currently, as a postdoctoral researcher, his attention has shifted to game experience. In this position Wouter is currently investigating the potential for measuring people’s real-time game experience through their behaviour in an automated way, affective computing, and improving societal and individual problems (e.g. rehabilitation of CVA and MS patients).
